A semi hauling an estimated 80 calves and yearlings tipped over about noon Friday, six miles south of Ashley.

Emergency personnel from McPherson County, South Dakota, responded to check the driver, who appeared to be unharmed.

Unofficially, at least eight head perished. The surviving cattle were transferred to local pasture.

The accident remains under investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
