The McIntosh County Sheriff’s Department has compiled an accident report from Dec. 18, when Duane Tillotson, 75, the driver of a 2008 Ford Edge, fell asleep at the wheel and drove off the roadway, a mile west of Ashley on North Dakota Highway 11.
Tillotson hit an electrical pole, which created a power outage in the city of Ashley. The car continued on before coming to rest against some trees.
Tillotson and his passenger, Karen Tillotson, 72, his wife, were transported to Ashley Medical Center for medical treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The Tillotsons are from Zeeland.
Ashley Fire, Ashley Ambulance, McIntosh County Sheriff’s Department and the North Dakota Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
MDU and DRN also responded to the scene to repair damage. Power was out for about 90 minutes.
