Sarah Crossingham, of Wishek High School, has been named the North Dakota History Teacher of the Year for 2017.

State and national awards are presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to K-12 American history education.

Inaugurated in 2004, the History Teacher of the Year Award highlights the crucial importance of history education by honoring exceptional American history teachers from elementary school through high school.

The award recognizes one K-12 teacher from each state, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense schools and U.S. Territories. This fall, the National History Teacher of the Year will be selected from the pool of state winners.

Crossingham has been teaching in Wishek since 2013. She also serves as assistant volleyball coach for the South Border Mustangs.

An honors graduate of Dickinson State University, with a bachelor's degree in Education/Social Sciences, Crossingham was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and grew up in Missoula, Montana.

Crossingham was nominated for the state Teacher of the Year honor by WHS principal Yvonne Engelhart.
