Wishek Police Chief Andy Tunheim told the council he was elected as a vice president by the North Dakota Association of Chiefs of Police during the organization's recent state convention.
Tunheim said in a follow-up interview that he is one of three vice presidents. Under association protocol, each of the three eventually will move up to serve as president.
"For now, it mostly means that I will be attending more professional development conferences and seminars that are sponsored by the association.
"It is an honor to have been elected to this position by my fellow chiefs," he said.
Tunheim has been chief of Wishek's two-man Police Department since 2015.
