The funeral for Eugene V. Wiest, 91, Sun Lakes, Arizona, formerly of Wishek, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wishek. He died Feb. 27 at his home in Sun Lakes. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2017, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek. Eugene Wiest was born May 21, 1925, the son of Emil P. and Maria (Thurn) Wiest/ He was raised on the family farm near Venturia, 17 miles southwest of Wishek. Eugene attended grade school in the Blumenthal School District, near Venturia, and graduated from Zeeland High School.  After attending Ellendale College for one year, he attended North Dakota State University, Fargo, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1948 ... The funeral for Gary L. Schuchard, 69, Fargo, formerly of Wishek, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. He died March 4 at a Fargo hospital. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home. Burial will be at Wishek City Cemetery. Gary Schuchard, son of Lester and Frieda (Schauer) Schuchard, was born June 13, 1947 at Napoleon. He was baptized July 21, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon. In 1952, the family moved to Wishek, where Gary attended school. Gary was confirmed April 5, 1962 at St. Luke Lutheran Church. Gary was united in marriage to Paulette George on April 17, 1965 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek ... Roger W. Becker, 65, Bismarck, died February 27, 2017 in Eagan, Minnesota. A Celebration of Life service was held March 6 at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck.Rog was born in Napoleon on July 15, 1951 to Richard and Viola (Kranzler) Becker.  He was raised and attended school in Napoleon. Rog married Inez Wanner on Feb. 8, 1970. He started his career in law enforcement in 1973 as a member of the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Department, leaving after two years to become an officer with the Wahpeton Police Department for six years ... Helen Mensing, 80, Los Angeles, California, formerly of Wishek, died Dec. 28, 2016 in Los Angeles. Helen Scherz was born June 8, 1936 in Passaic, New Jersey, the daughter of Ernest and Fannie Scherz. Helen married Harold Mensing, Wishek, in 2001. Harold moved to Wishek Home for the Aged in 2005 after a fall. He died in 2008. Helen moved back to Los Angeles in 2015 after many health problems. She had an assisted living apartment for five months and then with caregivers until her death.
