McIntosh County commissioners have taken another step toward purchasing a building to house the Road Maintenance Department headquarters.

At their May 10 regular meeting, commissioners Neil Meidinger, Steve Delzer and Perry Turner directed Auditor Gina Ketterling to prepare a loan application for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program.

USDA offers a federally-guaranteed loan that has a payback period of up to 30 years, with a fixed interest rate currently set at 3.375 percent.

Ketterling said she already has begun the application process for a Community Development Block Grant as well.
