The McIntosh County Commission held a public meeting Aug. 8 at the courthouse in Ashley to get input on the possible purchase of the Blumhardt Manufacturing building.
About 30 people attended.
Owners Josh and Robyn Schock are asking $450,000 for the expansive building; the commissioners counter-offered with $350,000, but it was turned down.
The estimated cost of building a new county shop is $750,000.
Concerns were expressed about the condition and suitability of the 40-year-old building, the cost of heating, and whether there is enough room for county equipment.
