Voting is a tradition for Leona Neu

The first presidential candidate that Leona Neu, of Ashley, voted for was Thomas E. Dewey in 1948.
Even though the Republican nominee lost to Harry S Truman that year, it didn’t stop her from voting in every presidential election since then.
Leona, 91, along with her husband, Herbert, voted in a one-room school house in those early years.
The couple always agreed on their choices in the presidential elections — “We were Republicans all the way!”
The local elections, however, is where they had differences of opinions at times.
“I went along with my husband and just followed his markings. If we didn’t agree, we would hash it out before we went to vote.
"If we hadn’t have done that, our votes would just have canceled each other’s out and wouldn’t have meant anything.”
