Work has been completed on an updated Wishek city ordinance book.

City Council members conducted a second reading of changes and additions to the book and approved a motion to adopt the entire revised document at their June 5 regular meeting.

Many of the ordinances will go into effect when the title and penalty clause are published in The Wishek Star, the city's official newspaper.

Other ordinances, which do not have a penalty clause went into effect upon approval of the motion to adopt, accoeding to City Attorney Mary DePuydt.

The revised book includes a mix of longstanding local statutes and model ordinances based on the North Dakota Century Code that were provided by the N.D. League of Cities.

Auditor Mary Wald said it's believed this is the first time in decades that the ordinance book has been completely revamped.
