South Border came up just short of advancing to the state Class B volleyball tournament, settling for third place Thursday at the Region 3 tourney in Ellendale.
 
The Mustangs took care of Oakes in four sets, avenging a regular-season loss to the Tornadoes. Set scores were 25-21, 25-17, 20-25 and 25-18.
 
Seniors Morgan Schnabel (16), Amy Jacobson (9), Kayla Rohr (5) and Courtney Jochim (4) closed their careers in fine fashion, combining for 34 kills.
 
Jochim was credited with 31 assists and Rohr served four aces. Isabella Froehling (15), Jacobson (8) and senior Elisabeth Dalke (7) had 30 digs between them.
