You've heard about the devastating fires in southern California.

From homes lost in San Diego, all the way up to Santa Clarita, high winds and dry weather have made a perfect combination for these fires to grow and spread.

For Casey and Christian James, formerly of Long Lake, South Dakota, the fires have hit closer to home. In their backyard, to be exact.

When she woke up on Wednesday, Casey had no idea of the scary situation she and her family would be put in during the coming hours.

High winds had snapped power lines, which sparked a dry brush fire just miles from her home. Within minutes, it had burned more than 100 acres.
