McIntosh County commissioners once again focused on the Road Department work schedule during their Sept. 18 regular meeting.

Commissioners Neil Meidinger, Steve Delzer and Perry Turner met with road crew members during the session.

Last month, the commission approved a motion that would have put the crew on a winter schedule of five eight-hour days when Daylight Saving Time ends in early November.

Under a longstanding tradition, during the months following the spring time change, the crew works four 10-hour days each week.

The consensus of the crew members who spoke at last week's meeting is that they prefer the 'four-10' schedule.

A compromise was proposed by the commission and a new motion was approved. It was detailed by Turner in a follow-up interview.

"What we've decided is to keep the summer schedule of four 10-hour work weeks in place until we see obvious signs of a difficult winter," Turner said.

"If and when that happens, we would shift the schedule to five eight-hour days (per week)."
