Shop tops county agenda
Posted 2/15/17 (Wed)
McIntosh County commissioners are once again looking at possible funding sources for a new building that would serve as headquarters for the Road Maintenance Department.
The current shop complex, located north of Ashley, has become outdated.
A proposed tax levy to help fund construction of a replacement structure was defeated in 2010 by voters. Since then, the commission has periodically explored other options.
Commissioner Perry Turner told colleagues Steve Delzer and Neil Meidinger at their Feb. 8 regular meeting that the time may be right to look at a new shop.
"We had the road crew out in -30 wind chill conditions this winter trying to repair an equipment breakdown, because there was not adequate space in the shop," Turner said.
