The funeral for Irene Koepplin, 95, Wishek, is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. She died April 8 at Wishek Living Center. Irene Blendina Just was born Feb. 14, 1922 to August and Albina (Ketterling) Just on the family farm, four miles north of Wishek. Irene married Edgar Koepplin, of Lehr, on Oct. 0, 1946. They moved to the family farm, four miles south of Lehr. They farmed together for 50-plus years. Edgar passed away in January of 2004 ... A memorial service for Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Klein has been set for 2 p.m. April 22, 2017 at Valley Memorial Park in Novato, California. Gregory Klein, 67, and Beverly (Wedge) Klein, 72, passed away peacefully in October of 2016. Greg was born June 28, 1949, in Fargo. He was the son of the late Edward Klein and Hulda (Bettenhausen) Klein. He graduated from Wishek High School and received his degree from North Dakota State College of Science. Bev was born, July 6, 1944, in Sebastopol, California. She graduated from Analy High School. They married on April 4, 1992 in Vacaville, California.

The funeral for Freda Ketterling, 103, Wishek, has been set for 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2017, at First Baptist Church, Wishek. She died April 1 at Wishek Living Center. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek. Freda Woehl was born March 28, 1914, in McIntosh County, near Wishek, the oldest daughter of Fred and Lydia (Bender) Woehl. Freda was united in marriage to Ruben Ketterling on Jan. 8, 1935 at Beaver Creek Baptist Church, near Wishek. They made their home on the family farm, north of Zeeland, until 1964, when it was destroyed by a tornado. In 1964, they moved to a farm, 4 1/2 miles east of Wishek, and, in 1968, they moved into Wishek.

Leonora Mindt passed away peacefully on Feb. 26 under hospice care in Hayden, Idaho. Leonora was born in Burnstad in 1927, to Henry and Emelia Mueller. She was raised in the nearby town of Wishek, where she graduated from Wishek High School in 1945.

The funeral for Wilbert “Willie” Vossler, 84, Wishek, was held March 18 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. He died March 15 at Wishek Living Center. Wilbert Vossler, son of Edward and Emma (Just) Vossler, was born Sept. 19, 1932 on the family farm, near Wishek. He grew up and attended rural school. Wilbert served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1956. Wilbert married Laverna (Brandner) on Sept. 9, 1958 at Zeeland. Wilbert farmed in the Wishek and Zeeland area until 2000, when he and Laverna moved into Wishek. He worked at the Steel Plant ... Funeral services for Linda Ella Pritzkau, 72, Sidney, Montana, were held Tueday, Feb. 28 at Church of the Nazarene, Sidney, with Pastor Richard Evans officiating. She died Feb. 21 at Sidney Health Center after battling cancer. Interment was Sidney Cemetery, under the direction of the Fulkerson-Stevenson Funeral Home, of Sidney. Linda was born Jan. 4, 1945 in Eureka, South Dakota. She was the eldest daughter of Edwin and Ella Bauer. Linda grew up on a farm, near Wishek. She was a hard worker, helping her parents with farm duties and even driving a tractor when she was 4 years old.

The funeral for Irene Sayler, 89, Bismarck, formerly of Wishek, was held Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. She died Feb. 22 at the Baptist Health Care Center, Bismarck. Irene Just, daughter of Christof C. and Emma (Thurn) Just, was born April 16, 1927 at the family home, 13 miles southwest of Wishek. She attended rural school and graduated from the eighth grade. Irene lived on the family farm until her marriage to Ludwig Sayler, son of Edward J. Sayler and Christina (Weisser) Sayler, on Jan. 20, 1949. Irene and her husband, Ludwig, farmed 10 miles west of Wishek. They moved into the city of Wishek in 1974. Irene was employed at the Wishek Nursing Home for 20 years before retiring ... Lena Schuler, 95, Wishek, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at Wishek Living Center. A funeral service was held Feb. 26 at the United Methodist Church in Streeter, with Pastor Hazel Behrens officiating. Lena Schwartzwalter was born Aug. 26, 1921 on the family farm, in Kidder County, southwest of Streeter, the daughter of John J. and Mathilda (Pfeifle) Schwartzwalter. She received her elementary education in the local rural school and attended one year of high school in Steele. Lena married Fred Schuler on Sept. 20, 1941 at Bismarck. They made their home on his parents' farm, 7½ miles southwest of Streeter for many years. Following the death of her husband on Aug. 15, 1968, Lena continued to reside on the farm. In 1973, she moved to Bismarck, where she worked at Holiday Inn and Kirkwood Motor Inn.

The funeral for Ione Bettenhausen, 89, Wishek, was held Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at United Church of Christ in Wishek. She died Feb. 12 at Wishek Living Center. Burial will be at the Wishek City Cemetery. Ione was born on February 14, 1927 in Venturia, the daughter of Albert and Margaret (Hochhalter) Wiest. She grew up on the family farm and received her education at a rural schoolhouse. At the age of 20, Ione married Christian Bettenhausen on April 6, 1947. The couple lived and farmed on the family farm, where they raised their six children ... The funeral for Bernice Schlenker, 88, Wishek, was held Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. She died Feb. 13 at Elim Nursing Home, Fargo. Private interment services will take place at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek. Bernice Koepplin was born Dec. 2, 1928 to Edward and Katie (Roth) Koepplin. Bernice received her elementary education in a rural school, near Lehr. As a young woman, she held a variety of jobs in the local area. Bernice married Walter Schlenker on June 23, 1946 at the Lehr Baptist Church ... Thomas Meidinger, 91, Fargo, passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at Sheyenne Crossings Care Center, West Fargo. Funeral services were held Feb. 17 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo. Tom was born June 20, 1925 to Ferdinand and Dorothea Meidinger in rural Wishek. He married Mildred Nies on Nov. 16, 1948. They farmed in rural Wishek until 1956, when the family moved to Moorhead, Minnesota. Tom attended Molar Barber College and graduated in 1957. They moved back to Wishek, where Tom continued to farm and barber. During the summer of 1967, Tom and Millie moved their family to Jamestown, where Tom owned his own barber shop.

Alma Engelhart, 94, Bismarck, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Bismarck Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date at the Wishek Cemetery. Alma Philippina Woehl, youngest child of Henry Woehl, Sr., a Black Sea German immigrant from Novosvetlovka, Ukraine, and Justina Boschee Woehl, was born Nov. 5, 1922, on the family homestead, 14 miles southwest of Wishek in McIntosh County, North Dakota. She was baptized in the family’s Ebenezer country church, and attended farm school for her first eight grades. She graduated from Wishek High School in 1941 and taught in a rural one-room school for several years, before marrying Julius Vossler in Alexandria, Louisiana, in 1943.
