Lucy Wangler, 80, Fargo, passed away on Jan. 18, 2017 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, surrounded by family. A funeral mass was held on Jan 23 at Riverview Place Chapel, Fargo. The funeral for Bernice Wanner, 81, Wishek, ND will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Bernice died Jan. 21 at a Fargo care center. The memorial service for Melvin D. Schilling, 71, Wishek, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at St Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Burial will be at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek. Melvin died Jan. 20 at Wishek Community Hospital.

The funeral for Ruben Aipperspach, 100, Wishek, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. He passed away peacefully on Jan. 6 at Wishek Living Center. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, Burial will be in the spring at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek, Ruben, son of Daniel and Anna (Schnabel) Aipperspach, was born Sept. 12, 1916. Ruben served in World War II, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a longtime business owner, member of the Wishek Lions Club, American Legion, and Wishek Golf Club, and a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church.

Elmer Nies, 83, Bemidji, Minnesota, died on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center. Funeral services were held Dec. 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bemidji. Interment was set at Frohn Eastside Cemetery, Bemidji. Elmer was born May 12, 1933 in Wishek,the son of Jacob and Martha Nies. He married Eileen Nies on Aug. 24, 1957. Elmer was a professor at Bemidji State University for 45 years, teaching study skills, English and Upword Bound. When he was younger, Elmer enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, working on cars, building houses, coaching soccer and going to football games.

Edwin Peter Wanner, 90, Fargo, died Nov. 12 at a Fargo hospital. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. today (Nov. 16) at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Chapel, Fargo. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the chapel. Edwin P. Wanner was born Aug. 23, 1926 in Wishek, to John and Magdalena (Raile) Wanner. He attended school near Wishek and Elliott, North Dakota. In 1944, Edwin entered the U.S. Army. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre during World War II. In 1960, Edwin moved to Fargo, where he was employed as a truck driver for a West Fargo feed company until his retirement ... Jim Nagel, 68, Garrison, formerly of Bismarck, died Nov. 5 at Garrison Hospital. Funeral services were held Nov. 10 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison. Burial was at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. James “Jim” Lee Nagel was born Oct, 11, 1948 in Kulm to Elda and Harry Nagel. Jim's parents divorced when he was a young boy. He grew up on the family farm, north of Lehr, with his mother and step-father, Theodore Erbele. Jim graduated from Lehr High School in 1966 and joined the Army. A year later, he married Blanche (Sayler).

Esther C. Fiechtner, 100, Wishek, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at Wishek Living Center. Funeral services were held Oct. 31 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, with Pastor Kristin Schwan, officiating. Esther Caroline Schlecht was born Nov. 21, 1915 at the family farm home, north of Fredonia, the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth (Dalke) Schlecht. Esther attended the local rural school, near Gackle, where she received her elementary education and grew to womanhood ... A memorial service for Herbert “Herbie” Vossler, 84, Eureka, South Dakota, was held Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at Avera Eureka Health Care Center Chapel. Rev. Lloyd Miller officiated. Burial was in St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek. Herbie died Oct. 19 at Avera Eureka Health Care Center. Herbert Alvin Vossler, son of Jacob and Eva (Becker) Vossler, was born Nov. 8, 1931 at Eureka. His family lived in Zeeland. His mother died in 1944 and his family eventually moved to Wishek. Later, Herbie lived with his aunt and uncle, Christ and Mary Vossler. In 1972, Herbie moved to Eureka.

Lillian Dempsey, 89, Wishek, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 7, 2016, at Wishek Living Center. A funeral service is set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13., at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, with Rev. Kristen Schwan officiating. Interment will be in Wishek City Cemetery. Lillian Barbara Wishek was born July 31, 1927 in Wishek, the daughter of John H. Wishek and Lillian (Mielke) Wishek. She attended Wishek Public School and graduated in 1945. She then attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, graduating in 1950 with a degree in English and Education ... Frederick Donald Hilsendager, 50, of Woodridge, Illinois, passed away suddenly on Sept. 25, 2016. A graduate of Wishek High School, Fred was respected for his basketball and track accomplishments; indeed, some of his records are unbeaten to this day. He was a proud graduate of Fox School of Business, Temple University, in Philadelphia. There will be a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center, Fargo, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
