rural schools fear voucher bill would shortchange their students
Rural school boards and administrations are casting a wary eye at pending legislation in Bismarck that would divert $24 million in public tax revenue to private urban schools. Most of the schools that would be the beneficiaries of House Bill 1532, a voucher program, are nonsecular, calling into question a potential breach of church and state. North Dakota Century Code explicitly states, “No money raised for the support of the public schools … shall be appropriated to or used for the support of any sectarian school.”

Ashley City Government Becoming Dysfunctional
For the second time since December, an Ashley mayor has resigned. In a hastily-called meeting on Thursday, March 16, Larry Meidinger tendered his resignation. Ashley City Council President Erich Schock is now acting mayor.

After Close Call, City will install 24/7 monitoring system
A fire scare on Dec. 13 that could have consumed most of the City of Ashley's heavy machinery prompted action by the Ashley City Council on Jan. 7. They voted to contract with Dickey Rural Network to install a 24/7 monitoring system. A fire started in the city garbage truck while it was parked in a city building. It was discovered in time for the Ashley Fire Department to extinguish the blaze before it destroyed the truck and two payloaders parked nearby.
